We work with children one-to-one or in small groups offering Play Therapy to help them explore and express their emotions. Our principal and founder is an accredited play therapist, trained with PLAY THERAPY UK, and registered with BACP. She has been working with children for a number of years using non-directive play therapy approaches.

Play Therapy is based on Virginia Axline’s (1969) eight key principles, where we adopt a non-judgmental approach, allowing the child to lead the session at their pace, set clear boundaries appropriate to the needs of the individual and enable them to explore and express their emotions and have these validated. In turn this helps children express themselves and find ways of coping with their difficulties.

Children are referred for different reasons, which may include: Witnessing domestic abuse, dealing with family separation, drug and alcohol addictions, bereavement, and diagnosis of physical and mental disabilities, bullying, low self-esteem, anger issues and/or family breakdowns.

We take referrals from parents/carers, schools, voluntary and statutory organisations. If you would like to make a referral please click here.

Individual sessions are charged at £40-£50 per session. This also includes parent/professional meetings and reports where appropriate throughout the therapeutic work.

All referrals are for a minimum of 12 sessions.

Therapeutic play sessions

Create Hope have designated workers and volunteers who will come into local schools to deliver therapeutic support to children. We offer one-to-one sessions, using integrative creative therapeutic approaches.

All our workers and volunteers will complete our 40-hour in-house training course before starting direct work with children.

We also provide DBS checks, indemnity insurance, safeguarding training and clinical supervision for all our volunteers and workers.

Sessions cost between £30-£40 each, which includes meetings with parent/carers, Teachers and other professionals where appropriate. We can also provide termly reports on request.

If a school requests multiple sessions, rates can be negotiated.

School sessions are generally funded through pupil premium budgets.

Family systemic therapy sessions

We offer support to families struggling with different environmental issues such as those affected by domestic abuse, bereavement, disabilities, drug and alcohol addiction and separated families trying to co-parent.

These sessions are for the whole family, or groups within the family targeting specific issues. The aim of these is to help families find restoration and deeper understanding of each other’s needs.

Our practitioner, currently completing her second year in family systemic therapy, will carry them out.

The cost for this service is between £45 - £60 per session.

These can take place in schools, family home or neutral location as agreed with therapist and family.

Family work sessions

At Create Hope we believe in a holistic approach to the support we offer. Alongside the Play Therapy and therapeutic work with children in schools we also offer emotional support to parents/carers as well.

Trained workers and volunteers will come alongside parents/carers within their homes or at a pre-agreed location. This gives parents/carers the opportunity to explore their own emotional responses and also experience some of the creative therapeutic approaches their children do.

If you are interested please contact us and our family worker Sarah Hardy will be in touch.

This service relies on donations and grant funding.
